Green Leaf Management plans to reduce our ecological footprint in 2012 by conserving 10 Million Gallons of water across our portfolio. Green Leaf Management is recruiting all residents to take the challenge and be conscientious about their water usage.
The average person without a water conservation strategy and water efficient appliance uses nearly 70 gallons of water per day. The best place to start is by understanding where your water usage is coming from and where you can cut back? It is vital that we all do our part to conserve this precious resource.
By installing efficient water fixtures you can reduce the daily water consumption per individual from 69.3 gallons a day to 45.2 gallons a day. That is a savings of 24.1 gallons!
A toilet is not a trash can. Place a trash bin by your toilet as a visual reminder of where small items should be disposed of. Every time you flush three gallons of water is wasted.
Report leaks, drips, and running toilets immediately. A small leak can waste thousands of gallons a year!
Shorten your shower time. A long hot shower is wonderful but it also creates so much waste. A four minute shower can use approximately 20 to 40 gallons of water.
Turn off the water while brushing teeth. Three gallons of water is wasted per minute while brushing teeth. Turn the faucet on and off and fill a small glass of water to rinse.
Use your dishwasher or clothes washer for full loads only.
Minimize use of garbage disposals Garbage disposals require a great deal of water to operate properly. Scrape food off dishes into the waste basket instead of putting it down the sink.
Don’t leave the water running while rinsing dishes. Fill the sink with water and wash all the dishes at one time. Or place the dishes directly into the dishwasher after scraping off food.
Don’t let the faucet run while rinsing vegetables. Just rinse them in stoppered sink or pan of clean water.
Make saving water a game and remind every person in the family.
